Building and Modifications
While building our machine, one problem we came across was that if the screws weren't tight enough, the machine would become unsteady and tilt when we tried to lift the book the gears would bow under the pressure and come out of alignment. Another problem we came across was that when we listed the book with the pulley, the book wouldfall out or tilt if the pulleys straps werent excatly even, the book would tilt or fall out. We fixed these problems by going back and using gears that were larger and stronger and tieing the pulley to the book in a different manner so that it stayed in place and helped to more evenly distribute the weight of the book. The main thing I gained from this project was learning that even though an idea makes perfect sense on paper, it may not work as planned once its actually built.
